At Millerbernd, Safety Is More Than a Protocol; It Defines Us in Everything We Do

When people are your greatest asset, keeping them safe requires a culture of safety that starts at the top and is woven into the very fabric of the organization.
When it comes to the large-scale engineering, fabrication, and manufacturing we pride ourselves on at Millerbernd, we know safety has to be more than just a policy or set of rules. At Millerbernd, safety is a defining characteristic of who we are and represents one of our core principles. That’s because we know our people make the difference, and keeping them safe ensures the strength of our business and our products.
Safety is more than just avoiding accidents and keeping our team members out of harm’s way. Being safe is what allows Millerbernd to deliver exceptional solutions for our customers and a work culture that provides security, growth, and opportunities for our employees and our vendors 365 days a year.

“A lot of times when you hear the word safety, you think about eye protection or things like closed-toed shoes,” said Chad Engler, Senior Safety and Environmental Specialist at Millerbernd. “Obviously, we do all those things and more, but here it’s part of our culture to the point where we don’t purposely think about safety, it’s part of everything we do.”
It starts at the top, where Millerbernd leadership doesn’t simply support safety; they live it, both in their careers and within the community. Their actions, and by holding themselves accountable to the same, if not higher, standard, set the tone for everyone else to follow.
“Anyone can talk about safety, but we know actions speak louder than words,” said Engler. “Strong leaders lead by example, and when they do, it’s respected and followed throughout the organization.”
More than just actions, Millerbernd also makes significant investments in equipment and training to further enhance safety; in fact, we even budget for it. While some companies may look at investments purely from an efficiency or improved quality perspective, Millerbernd also puts significant emphasis on the increased safety it can provide.
“We know the initial investment in new safety systems, equipment, or training may cost more,” said Engler. “But knowing our team members are safe…that their family at home knows they’re safe, and that customers can count on us, that’s what really matters."

Perhaps nowhere is Millerbernd’s culture of safety more evident than in the values of the people who call Millerbernd home. That’s because the company values people who share the same level of commitment, passion, and understanding of what safety really means to the success and well-being of the company, its customers, and especially its people.
“Safety is non-negotiable,” said Eric Stack, President at Millerbernd. “That may sound harsh, but everyone needs to uphold our commitment to safety, not just for themselves but for everyone around them. That’s because our people truly are the difference makers. They are what sets Millerbernd apart and makes us a leader. Knowing this, keeping them safe is an obvious top priority.”
